Artist Statement:

The main idea that guided my artwork was pure contour; creating lines of different densities from varying perspectives of a shoe, and of a hand. The materials I used were a graphite mechanical pencil and 9" x 12" art paper. The process I went through to occomplish the task of pure contour drawing started with chosing the perspective/angle of which I wanted to draw. Once I had this figured out, the rest became quite simple; drawing what I saw. I started very lightly, drawing basic shapes to get an idea of the sizing, and shape of the object/figure. I then erased any unneeded lines from said shapes once I figured out my whole shape. During this I was still drawing lightly, only slightly more than when I was drawing basic shapes. After this I proceeded to add any details I saw, I started with more broad details like shoe patterns, or finger nails, and progressed to smaller details, like the lines in my hand or designs in the shoes such as holes. After I was satisfied with the overall look of the drawings, I went over some lines with thicker, and/or darker lines for those that needed them. Lastly I erased any sketchy lines to achieve a cleaner drawing.
