Beautiful Oops

Artist Statement

The idea that guided my artwork was outer space.

I used 9x6 art paper, india ink, graphite mechanical pencil, and a pen.

I started this piece by first, looking at the ink splotch and then figuring out what I wanted to make of it. From the start I already knew I wanted to do something outer-space-themed, so upon looking at it for a little while longer, I came to the conclusion that it was just about the perfect shape of an astronaut helmet. I then proceeded to sketch the outline of the astronaut, avoiding any details. Once I became satisfied with the shape, I went in with details and shading.  I had some extra time, as well as extra space on my paper, so I decided to fill it with a planet of some sort which I drew by starting off with a basic half-circle and then proceeded to shade it in. In the future, I would have made my lines more clean, especially the planet, but aside from that I was pretty happy with the outcome of this piece.
