Artist Statement: During this unit we had to focus on zooming in on our "Three views of a shoe drawings" and then further blowing them up onto a larger piece of paper while keeping proportion in mind. The main idea that guided the large artwork was that I had to make a picture out of the lines that came from a zoomed and cropped drawing of a shoe. The lines that were present on the paper looked like a face, so naturally I made a face for the picture. However, I also wanted to add something more abstract to the background, so I combined the components of a face with the components of nature. As you can see there is flowers, mountains, grass, a raincloud, and a series of multicolored streams. The materials that I used to make the artwork were mainly graphite, Sharpie pen ink, and Marker ink. I used brush tipped markers to try to create the subtle details of nature. These details included the wispiness of clouds, the flowing nature of rivers and streams, and the cloudiness of smoke. In order to create this piece, I tried to recreate many patterns that I have seen in life. One of the more prominent patterns that you can see in the picture is the flower pattern. I implemented it into the picture because I had seen it on many quilts before and liked the look of it. I also thought that it would match the nature theme of the drawing. Another pattern I implemented was the winding stream pattern. I put this into the picture because I have always liked looking at the different parts of streams and the way they wind themselves all around the land. Overall this picture was very fun to create because the abstract in it was very diverse in its meaning.
