Artist Statement: In this project, the goal was to create a poster/graphic design that would encourage people, specifically teenagers and new drivers to become organ donors on their drivers license. When thinking about how I would convey this message in a creative way, I thought of life as kind of a book with chapters and every day is a new page. With this in mind I created the slogan "Give someone a chance to continue their story, consider organ and tissue donation." I put one part of the slogan on one page and the other part on the next page with a skeleton hand representing the donor turning the page in the person of needs story. I made this work by using only graphite colored pencil and marker. I used the graphite to map out my book and letters. Then I colored them in with marker to make them more colorful. The pen was used to go over the graphite to make the message more bold. Graphic design needs to be seen by people and recognized so I had to make the message bold. The strategies and references I used to make this artwork were that I looked at a skeleton hand to organize the bones into the correct place in the hand and make an accurate depiction of the skeleton. Another thing I slightly looked at was a reference of a book so I could get the dimensions of the pages right and such. Overall, I enjoyed making this project because it was very simple and it also was for a larger cause to help people in need.
