Artist statement: For these pieces of art the main focus behind them was to show negative space. This was done by drawing the line along the outside of an object and neglecting the inner detail and connection of the object. Negative space is shown in a singular body there is no partitions in that body or between that body and another. Negative space is often kind of abstract but it also is a way to show detail (The zentangle is an example of this.) The materials that were used to create these pieces were generally graphite (Shading pencil), ink(Sharpie pen), and various types of paper. However the negative space leaves drawing also used marker to add color to the image and create a more vibrant background. In order to make the zentangle I looked at a zebra silhouette in order to try to create the most accurate shape. Another thing I did to create the zentangle was to brainstorm various designs I could use to use negative space to create shading. For the hand drawings I did not really use any outside references besides the hands that were in front of me. For the negative space leaves I had to carefully look at the leave and outline the negative space that they represented in the drawing. Next I had to reference the colors in the rainbow in order to make the colorful background that popped. Overall these art pieces all brought a different challenge and they were pretty fun to make!
