Extended Blind Contour Drawing

Dinosaur Bonanza

9"x 12"

Graphite and watercolor on Bristel Board

The main idea behind this artwork was to try to create a distinctive picture out of three blind contour drawings where you could not look at the paper or pick up your pen. With that being the physical main idea behind the artwork, the idea that I was trying to get at is possibly similar to the beautiful oops project. Ugly looking gloomy mistakes, can turn into colorful imaginative pieces of art. This is what I was trying to do by turning the blind contour drawings (Which weren't really mistakes, just meaningless lines) into a picture that could represent happiness and give the viewer kind of an upbeat feeling. This work was made with graphite on paper, sketching pencil, sharpie pen, and watercolor paint. First I drew the body parts of the dinosaur and the other elements of the scene from the skeleton of the blind contour drawings. Next I went over the lines in sharpie pen in order to make sure that the paint would stay inside the lines and the figure would look more bold. Finally I used watercolor paint to go in and give the picture some pop and emotion to it. In order to create this piece I mainly just looked at the blind contour drawings, and because I saw a dinosaur head looking drawing in the middle I tried to make the focus of the picture the dinosaur, with the secondary and tertiary blind contour drawings being the background of the scene. In conclusion This was a really fun piece to make because it left room for a lot of imagination and improvisation!
