Soft Slab Construction

Artist Statement

For this assignment, I was tasked to make four mugs using the soft slab technique. Due to a lack of time, the number was cut to two. Since I was so behind, Mr. Andreson allowed me to do just one (thank you!).

I used the soft slab technique to make this mug. This consists of rolling out a slab of clay, wrapping it around an object (for this, I used a rolling pin), then sliding said object out, leaving you with a piece of clay in whatever basic shape you wanted. After I did this, attached the base, smoothed the top (sort of), and had it glaze fired, I applied a purple glaze. Then it was bisque fired, and you get this.

I'm neither super happy nor super disappointed with this. It gets a "meh" from me. If I'd had more time, I could've done a better job, but this will do.
