Final Reflection

1) Of which in-class project (Pinch Pots, Coil Pot, Slab Project, Artist Inspired) are you most proud? Why? Please explain and be specific. What did you learn from doing this project (about yourself as an art maker and/or about the technical process of working with clay)?

Of the in-class projects, I'm most proud of my work for the Multiple Pinch Pot Project. For this project, I make a bowl of ice cream. I found this project to be quite enjoyable, both because the method was fairly easy, and because I'm rather pleased with my idea for it. It took me some time to come up with the ice cream idea, but I'm very glad that I took that time instead of rushing, as the end result is (in my opinion) fantastic. Through this project, I learned that I'm actually capable of doing an art assignment well. This might not sound impressive, but it was kind of surprising to me.

2) How has taking this class changed the way you think about ceramics? This could include your own art-making, how you appreciate art, and/or how you might look differently at art in the world around you.

Before I took this class, I was really looking forward to it. Now that I've taken it, I'm glad I tried it. However, I didn't enjoy working with clay as much as I expected to. Just so it's clear, I am not complaining about Mr. Andreson/his teaching style. All I'm saying is that working with clay isn't my thing. Looking on the bright side, I learned about some artists whose work really interests me. If I decide to take another art class, I may be able to incorporate their styles into my work.

3) What recommendations would you make for ways that the class could be improved?

One problem I had is that when I got behind, I found it very hard to catch up. While this is more of a me problem than an issue with the class, if this could be made easier, that would be a great improvement. Another thing that gave me trouble was that some projects were far more complex than I expected. It would have been nice to have had a better idea of the difficulty of some things. On the other hand, I really appriciated how Mr. Andreson gave us a demonstration of each new technique. That really helped me when I started a new, unfamiliar project.
