Multiple Pinch Pot Project

Artist Statement

I started this assignment a bit late, but managed to finish on time due to multiple callbacks. This is a clay sculpture resembling a bowl of ice cream.

To create this, I make 5 pinch pots: 4 scoops of ice cream and 1 bowl. For the ice cream, I just made normal–albeit, rather small–pinch pots. For the bowl, I make a larger, flatter one, and then I flattened the base further. I stuck them all together using slip, let them dry, then glazed the whole thing.

I came up with many ideas for this (a monster, a plant, a mountain range, etc.), but I eventually settled on a bowl of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, mango, and mint - delicious). I considered adding a chocolate sauce to it, but I thought that would blend in too much with the chocolate ice cream and the bowl.

I'm really proud of my work on this. It came out way better than I'd hoped, and I just think it looks really nice. There are a few mistakes with the glazing (bits of ice cream that are tinted the cobalt blue of the bowl), but all in all, it came out quite well.
