solve a world problem

In this project me and my group were instructed to solve a problem that is affecting people around the world. so we started with one of the biggest problems out there, our energy sources. We came into this project knowing that fossil fueled energy is very harmful towards the environment but we didnt know how big a problem it was. After doing some research we found that 75% of our carbon dioxide emissions come from energy and transportation 39% of that coming from transportation. with this knowledge we knew we had to find a solution to finding and different energy source and limiting the world from carbon emissions.

How to save the world

Research

After finding our problem we needed to know the possible solutions so we searched up possible alternative energy solutions and began researching which would be the best

Nuclear was was too difficult to store the waste and the materials to get it working were incredibly difficult to find

solar used energy from the sun but wasn't very effective due to little energy extracted

wind comes from giant windmills however this energy cant be used worldwide and take massive amounts of space so this couldnt be used in cities or close proximity buildings

lastly hydrogen a fuel cell based on splitting the electrons and protons apart and using the electrons to power anything.

Solution

After extensive research of our possible alternative energy sources our group selected hydrogen as the one of best fit. We chose this because hydrogen can be produced at anyone's home it is an energy carrier so It is used to refuel cars not charge them and lastly it is very environmentally friendly leaving only water and heat as by products.

Problems

However hydrogen does have its downsides such as it being very flammable and the price of making refueling stations costing 10 times more then a Tesla super charger with these problems in mind we set out to find a way to make hydrogen a more reliable source

Prototype

we knew we had to show hydrogen could be a reliable source so that then more people would start transferring to this new energy source so we got to work making our own hydrogen. We got a tub of water and put in sodium sulfate so that the electrons could pass through easier. With a tub of water we now had 2/3 hydrogen we just needed to break the hydrogen away from the oxygen molecules. to do this we connected 3 nine volt batteries giving us 27 volts total we then connected the positive and negative sides to two pieces of lead using wires. next we placed those two pieces of lead in the water and before we knew it bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen started appearing we got a vile and carefully collected the samples and took measurements on how much we collected in a certain period of time.

Reflection

Two things I did well on this project were do lots of research and fully understand the concept of what we were talking about. Because of this full understanding I felt I presented rather well knowing everything on the subject and coming prepared for questions.

For the next project I want to make a checklist based off of the rubric for the assignment and check off things that I've done so that I can maximize my success for this project. Id also like to try and involve the audience in the presentation more so that I can connect with them better.

I think I´ve grown as a critical thinker through out this project by doing more research and further backing up our claims, to make sure we had a rock solid argument. Next I grew as a collaborative teammate by helping take charge on our prototype and our presentation through assigning roles to each team member and using their strengths as a tool to accomplish the task at hand.
