English

In our English 9 class we were introduced to the ability of analyzing literature as well as gaining new abilities through reading, writing, speaking and listening. These skills will help us build a foundation towards higher level English classes and different subjects beyond our school community.

Throughout this year we have gained experience practicing these skills by practicing academic vocabulary and building thoughtful essays by working on non fiction, drama, poetry, and fiction pieces. We will also practice oral presentations, class discussions, grammar, formatting mechanics, writing conversations, as well as including narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and expository works in our writings. These will be practiced through our many reading and writing assignments taking place throughout the course of the school year.

The main focus of the class through the year will be placed on finding the issues and difficulties around ourselves and society. This will be discovered by reading the following books; The Absolute True Story of a Part Time Indian, Lord of the Flies,Romeo and Juliet, and How to Kill a Mockingbird. These along with short stories and poems will be the main focus of this year.
