Recently, because I’ve gotten bored of the dining hall meals, I’ve tried to be a little more creative. Here are a few of my successful and “work-in-progress” food combos:
The Viral Dot Cake - 8/10
Ice Cream Swirl Reviews - Connie Lu
The ice cream machine finally got fixed this Tuesday, so it’s time to try out all the flavor combinations again!
Tuesday (7/21): Today’s swirl was chocolate ice cream and raspberry sorbet. I’d rate it a 9/10—the raspberry’s tanginess complemented the sweet, smooth chocolate flavor very well, and, be honest, even on their own, they’re both amazing flavors!
Wednesday (7/22): On Wednesday, I was excited to see that the cafeteria brought back their matcha ice cream, along with the classic pineapple Dole Whip. I’d rate this one an 8 out of 10; while I loved both of the individual flavors, the pineapple had a sourness to it that slightly overpowered the matcha ice cream, which was not as strong as I would’ve liked it to be.
Thursday (7/23): Today’s mix was mango and vanilla, which I’d give about a 7/10. I’m usually a big fan of both mango and vanilla, but the mango flavor wasn’t as fresh as I was expecting it to be, so paired with the sweet vanilla, the swirl ended up tasting like a too-sweet mango ice cream. It was still good, but like your Asian aunties, I’m more drawn to the not-too-sweet flavors.
Friday (7/24): Finally, Friday’s treat was raspberry and vanilla, and I’d rate it an 8.5/10. The sourness of the raspberry Dole Whip balanced out the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream, and this one gets extra points for being a pretty pink-white swirl—look at that color combo!
