Week 2 RA Interviews

This week’s interviews kick off with Caishu T. of Cluster 7 (Shining a Light on

the Future: The Photonics Revolution in Healthcare, Energy, and Information

Technologies). They just graduated this past term with double majors in Art

and History of Art and Visual Culture (HAVC). Their COSMOS RA journey started

in high school when a friend talked about how fun the program was, and they

wanted some experience as an RA before departing from UCSC. Some of the

activities Caishu has led so far are the cyanotype workshop – their favorite for

its relation to their major – and the spelling bee. As for future COSMOS events,

they are most excited for the lip-sync battle to see the clusters come together

on stage and to perform with the RA group. Caishu enjoys drawing and

roller-skating in their free time, and their favorite movie is Perfect Blue. Their

advice for COSMOS students is to avoid stressing out too much – especially

about college apps! – or putting too much pressure on yourself, leaving us with

a reminder that “things will work out no matter where you go”.

Next up is Tiannah G. of Cluster 4 (Quantum Information Science and

Engineering (QISE)), who is a Global and Community Health major going into

her third year here at UCSC. She came to COSMOS as an RA while looking for

something to do for the summer and stayed for the great community and

incredible people here. Her favorite activities that she has led so far are those

involving arts and crafts, such as bracelet making and frame night. Tiannah

cites Opening Day as her favorite COSMOS memory so far for the fun

community-building experience for the RAs, despite the slightly stressful rush.

The Princess and the Frog is her favorite movie, and her hobbies include

hanging out with friends, listening to music, reading books, going on hikes,

and trying new things. This last listing extends to Tiannah’s advice for

students, which is to “try to go to everything”, whether that’s attending events

or joining clubs, and being as involved as possible to meet all types of people.
