Students have settled in and become familiar with the COSMOS routine, but the number of haikus seem to have gotten even higher. The previous weekend was the perfect time for students to rest well and recharge for this week, and they certainly seemed attentive and excited for all the activities that were offered. This week, students spent more time in their dorms especially as final projects were coming up, but many also utilized dorm time to study for upcoming tests.
Most clusters have begun preparing for their final presentation and project, which will be showcased to their individual clusters as well as the symposium on Friday the 31st. As such, students are busy working away at researching, coding, or writing up their project in their dorms. Additionally, the upcoming SATs in the fall have led many students to stay in their dorms during free time to grind practice problems in hopes of achieving a satisfying score. Others, however, resorted to spending time outside of dorms or in the lobbies playing sports, doing the offered activities (such as the World Cup watch parties), or just chilling with friends and practicing in the piano room. During sunrise and sunset you can hear talented musicians practicing hard, with lovely melodies filling the campus.
There have not been many issues regarding the cleanliness of the bathrooms, as no floor meetings were called. While there were some ramen pieces over one of the sink drains, it was cleaned out a few days later. Even more, students brought the fun to the bathroom atmosphere by singing their hearts out in the shower, in which you could hear it throughout the whole floor. From “The One That Got Away” by Katty Perry to “Cheerleader” by OMI, the insane vocals brought the liveliness to everyone’s night routines. Many field trips within clusters also occurred this week, and some clusters had to wake up slightly earlier to get to their destination on time.
Overall, week 2 has been fantastic and students are certainly enjoying their time here. While the dorms may not offer too much, students brought the energy and utilized the space in fun and thoughtful ways. We hope week 3 is just as fun, and that students don’t keep getting locked out.
