Welcome to 8th Grade US History!
Mrs. Sundell
Class Overview
We study the history of the United States from the pre-colonial days through the end of the civil war. From the explorations of Christopher Columbus through the final days of Abraham Lincoln, we will discuss the people, places and events which shaped our great nation.
In addition to the text book, we will explore many primary source documents to develop a deeper understanding on the time and the various opinions which helped to frame our country. Students will develop the ability to critically analyze sources of information to develop an appreciation of multiple points of view while learning about the Declaration of Independence or the Civil War or slavery.
While studying the past is important to understanding who we are, it is just as critical to keep our eyes and ears open to the current events occurring throughout the world. We will talk about events as appropriate and when they relate to historical events.
