Grade 8 Religion takes students back to the early years of the Catholic Church. Students will learn about the path the disciples took to spread the Good News after Jesus' death. Through the lens of the Church, they will discover the Dark Ages, the Middle Ages, the Crusades, the Great Schism, the Great Western Schism, the Black Death, the Protestant Reformation and how the Church acted and responded in each of these trying times. Students also learn about the Marks of our Church (One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.) Students are highly encouraged to altar serve, attend mass on Sundays and Holy Days, and participate fully in Catholic life. My hope is for each child to come away from this course with an appreciation of those early Christians who risked everything to spread the Good News of Jesus, and a deeper understanding of the struggles that our Church has faced throughout its history. I also hope that each child will leave St. Joe’s with a greater understanding of his or her faith, and a strong relationship with God.
