Course Description
7th Accelerated is designed to prepare students for Pre-Algebra. During the first semester students will learn about solving one-step equations and inequalities involving integers, decimals and fractions. Students will review the meaning of exponents and their use in scientific notation. An entire chapter is devoted to ratios, proportions and percents with a focus on being proficient solving tax, tip, commission, markup and discount problems. We will also review the metric and customary measurement systems. Second semester we will get into solving multi-step equations and inequalities as well as working with formulas for simple and compound interest. We spend an entire chapter looking at the equations for lines in different forms and their graphs. We take a slight break to look at surface area and volume problems. We then move into the world of trigonometry - right triangles and their use in the midpoint and distance formulas. We also get our first look at the use of sine, cosine and tangent to solve for missing sides and angles in right triangles with a focus on real-world measurement using angles of elevation and angles of depression. We complete our year by sampling some of what is to come when we look at polynomials and some nonlinear functions.
