The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), require State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agencies and Education to work together. The goal is to create a well-coordinated support system for students with disabilities as they move from high school to life after school. This includes pre-employment transition services, general transition support, and other vocational rehabilitation services.
This partnership can be seen in action through efforts like Sequencing of Services, the joint WIOA State Plan, the shared Strategic Plan for Capacity Building, and the Governor’s initiatives aimed at improving student employment outcomes by expanding access to work-based learning and training opportunities.
