Time Change & Rain

The week after the time change is always an adjustment for me. You would think that moving the clock up one hour would not make such a difference, but losing that one hour seems to set my week into a shock for a few days.

I wanted to make you aware that Margie DeMuth has decided to retire from St. Albert at the end of this school year. Margie has been at St. Albert for 20 years and has touched the lives of so, so many families. It has always been so obvious to me that Margie loves her job as a first grade teacher. Her calm demeanor along with her sparkly smile have been such a perfect match for our young students. We will be soaking up all of those smiles these next couple of months.

Also planning to leave St. Albert at the end of this school year is Bill Henderson. Bill has been a driving force of the technology at St. Albert for 7 years. Bill has always been there to help out wherever our community has needed him, and has done so with a positive attitude and a wealth of knowledge.

We are going to miss Bill and Margie, but wish them the very best. We look forward to staying in touch with them and hearing about their future experiences.

Looks like a rainy start to our week, but we can’t have the spring flowers without the rain! Spring is around the corner.

Author of The Giver applauds our students

A right of passage at St. Albert is reading The Giver in Ms. Geerer's 7th grade literature class. One of the assignments in this unit was for students to design and make book covers that would entice someone else to read the story.

Our Librarian, Mrs. Turner, saw the pieces hanging in the hallway and was struck by a particular cover. She took a few photos and emailed them to the author of The Giver herself, Lois Lowry!

To everyone's amazement she actually replied herself with an emphatic 'BRAVO!' and congratulated the students on the hard work that went into this assignment.

While you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, it doesn't hurt to take a look. Ask your student about the books they are reading at school and come get a new book or two at our SPRING BOOK FAIR!

Spring Book Fair!

The Book Fair will be open from Friday March 19th-Thursday March 25th

There will be two evenings available for parents to come shop from 3:30-7:30pm Monday March 22nd and Tuesday March 23rd.

The Book Fair will be located in the PLC. Online Orders are also available and students will be able to shop the book Fair at their designated library times!

I would love to have a few parent volunteers to help set up on March 18th at 4:15 pm and Tear down at 3:30 on March 25th! Also, I would love parent volunteers to assist with the book fair on March 22nd and 23rd so If you are interested in helping please email me at bturner@stalbert.org.

Homework Club, Grades 6-8

Annual Stewardship Form

St. Albert the Great Parish is made up of thousands of generous people giving their gifts of time, talent and treasure in support of our parish's mission to love, serve, and know God and one another. As part of our Annual Stewardship Renewal, this Tuesday we will be sending home Early Stewardship Forms to families currently attending St. Albert school (last year's Stewardship Renewal was delayed from Spring to October 2020 due to COVID-19).

The return of an annual Stewardship form is a requirement for you to receive Parish Tuition Rates for the 2021-2022 school year.

These "Blue Forms" are being sent out to you ahead of the parish-wide Stewardship Renewal in April to allow our parishioners with school children additional time to return the form before the end of the school year.

Please return this Early Stewardship form to the School Office by April 9th. Thank you.

Spring BReak Reminders

The Archdiocese has recommended that we proceed with our original school calendar regarding spring break: no NTI buffer as was recommended during the holidays.

Please take into consideration:

  • What type of travel are you and your family participating in?

    • A (car) trip to visit family in a remote or secluded environment vs flying and visiting a highly populated area/amusement park

  • The Archdiocese of Louisville recommends a 14 day quarantine after travel (A family that will be quarantining after spring break, will need to let Lindsay Finley know by Thursday, March 18, and will return to school Monday, April 19)

  • Anyone that has been fully vaccinated does not have to self quarantine

Non travel social gatherings to take into consideration:

  • Was the social gathering in a closed/confined area with little ventilation for an extended period of time?

  • Were there numerous unfamiliar attendees at the social gathering? Were masks worn?

We are asking that all families be cautious as we proceed ahead, and keep our St. Albert community, as well as all others, in mind as we make decisions regarding travel, gatherings, and quarantines.

Wear Super Socks on Friday, March 19th

We are celebrating "Super socks" day on March 19 for World Down Syndrome. $1.00 donation to wear crazy socks.

Parish Pastoral Council -- Open Positions

It is with great pleasure to announce that it is time to begin the process of identifying new members for the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). In consultation with the Pastor, the PPC actively listens to and identifies the needs and concerns of the parishioners and develops a parish pastoral plan to respond to these needs working closely with the parish staff. The Council also seeks to implement the plan by seeking the involvement of parishioners.

We are in need of 4 parishioners who possess the following qualities:

A desire for spiritual growth in themselves and the Parish

An enthusiasm about the future direction of the Parish

A willingness to listen, to speak honestly and to work toward consensus

The ability to inspire and empower others to delegate

Flexibility and openness with people and ideas

What we are asking of you is the following:

Consider if you have the above qualities, and if so, prayerfully consider nominating yourself

Consider others within the Parish that you feel exhibit the above qualities and nominate them (with their approval)

Nominations can be sent to mamapesce@yahoo.com, subject line: PPC Nomination, or can be brought to the Parish office.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL

The last day of school for the 2020-2021 school year is May 25, 2021. This will be a 12:30 dismissal.

New Morning Carpool Pattern

If you have students that are in K-4 and 5-8 please follow the K-4 procedures.

We ask that you please have your student ready to exit the car as soon as you have stopped. They need to have backpacks, jackets, lunchboxes, and all kisses and hugs ready to go so that we may be as efficient as possible.

Remember JCPS is starting back to school so there will be more traffic. Plan to leave your house earlier than you have this school year to allow for traffic.

If you arrive after 7:50, you will need to drop your child off at the school office for a tardy slip before they head to their homeroom.

8th Grade Bake Sale

8th Grade Families: We are fundraising for our wonderful kids to have a fun graduation party at the end of the year and we need your help! Please see the below link to the sign up genius for the Fish Fry bake sale. All proceeds go directly to the eighth graders! Thanks for you help and support!
