The main office must receive communication (either written or via telephone) from a parent or guardian to grant approval for early dismissal. The communication must include valid reasons for dismissal and the times you are being dismissed from school.
If you arrive at school after the start of your first period class (7:55 AM), you must sign in at the Main Office and receive a pass before going to class. Your first-period teacher will not admit you without a pass.
Before 7:55 AM, you may go to the cafeteria or remain in the lobby, but you may not be in the classroom areas of the school. After the 7:55 AM bell, you may visit the upstairs hallways/public spaces and proceed to your first-period class.
Student safety and accountability are paramount during a crisis. At all times, we must know exactly who is present in the building. Therefore, once a student arrives on school grounds, they must enter the building and attend their assigned classes to be counted as present. Students are expected to stay for the full school day and are not permitted to remain in the parking lot—whether inside or outside of their vehicles—during school hours (including during lunch). Any student arriving late must sign in at the main office. This policy applies to all students, including those who are 18 years of age or older.
FLEX block at SHS is a dedicated time during the school day that allows students to access academic support, enrichment, and personalized learning opportunities. During FLEX, students can make up missed work, get extra help, prepare for tests, build foundational skills, or advance in content if they are already meeting expectations. It also offers opportunities for reteaching, small group instruction, study skills, and content-specific executive functioning support. Students assigned to FLEX are required to attend as part of their school day.
Any student who needs to leave school early must follow the early dismissal procedures and be signed out by a Main Office staff member. If a student is signed out by a parent or guardian during lunch, they must provide a medical note to return to school later that same day; otherwise, the student will not be allowed to return to school on the same day.
The administration reserves the right to approve or deny all requests.
Students who leave the school building or campus without prior permission will face disciplinary consequences. Students who leave the Front Patio area during lunch without prior permission and enter the parking lot will be considered to have left the school grounds. This includes administrative discipline and, if applicable, a parking violation. Additionally, any student who leaves the building or the Front Patio area during lunch without permission may be subject to a search, as outlined in District Policy C21: Search and Seizure of Students by School Personnel.
Students who leave campus without authorization will not be allowed back into the building and will be prohibited from participating in school-sponsored activities for the remainder of the day. If the violation occurs on the last day of the school week, the student will be ineligible to participate in school-sponsored activities until the next regular school day.
