Secondary Practical and Applied Arts (PAA) survey courses let you explore different hands-on skills by combining modules from at least three areas of study. These courses include a career module to help you learn about job opportunities and always focus on safety. If a module has a prerequisite, you need to complete it first. To keep things organized, schools track which modules you take to avoid repeats. No single subject can take up more than half of the course, and if work experience is included, it must follow special guidelines.
The PASV10 (General House Repair) class dives into the idea of DIY home repair. Basic skills in several different trade areas such as Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing are explored. Basic wall framing, drywall repair (patching/mudding), door knobs, lock sets, door hinges, tiling, electrical circuits, lights, outlets, switches, sink drains, kitchen faucets, dishwashers and toilets are the focus of the class.
This will allow students to develop basic skills in home repair and to save time and money on costly repairs when owning their own home or renting apartments after high school.
