The popularity of the radio in World War ll greatly impacted the trajectory of the war, from the common household, to soldiers in combat.
The radio emerged as a popular essential for a home in the late 1920’s to early 1930’s. By the time that the second world war had started, it was common for the average family to own a radio and listen to it in their homes. With the radio, families all around the world were able to get broadcasts about the war, keeping them up to date on the pivotal moments. With so many people relying on the radio for updates on what was going on, it became something for countries to manipulate and spread propaganda. The United States took advantage of the radio to encourage people to join the war, on the other hand, Germany took the radio as an opportunity to further spread Nazi propaganda; trying to influence the average home, for more power. Not only was the radio important in homes, it was also important on the battlefield. Soldiers very commonly listened to the radio while at war, whether it was getting commands or even listening to it so they would have a sense of home. The impact of the radio spread rapidly and it had a significant impact on World War ll.
