Hitler Youth was organized just like the military to prepare its members for the future. The members participated in drills, shooting, wore uniforms, and were all given opportunities to rise in rank. The biggest annual gathering of the Hitler Youth would usually take place during the party rallies at Nuremberg. There were also groups for females with the goals of educating them with Nazi ideology and preparing them for their future roles as German mothers. Hitler Youth provided activities such as hikes, camps, adventures in the outdoors, marching bands, and amateur theatricals. These activities were provided with the intention of inspiring a community and teamwork. Hitler Youth ‘duty’ was typically performed twice a week, always on Saturdays and usually Wednesdays. Hitler wanted a generation of "victorious, active, daring youth, immune to pain." There was to be no "intellectual" training, as Hitler saw intellect to be damaging to German youth. The Hitler Youth program reflected Hitler's distrust of intellectuals and lack of interest in intellectual pursuits. The typical uniform of the Hitler Youth consisted of a brown shirt, black shorts and the Hitler Youth armband for the summer. Going along with that, there was usually a black belt, grey socks, a black scarf and brown cap that was also worn as part of the uniform.
