USATestPrep Introduction Video

Access and Rostering

Students and teachers access USA Test Prep through Clever. No other usernames or passwords are needed.

Rostering

When teachers logon to USA Test Prep through Clever, their courses in PowerSchool will automatically be connected. (These courses will have a blue "C" icon next to the course name.) However, USA Test Prep does not allow students to be added to a course until a test is connected to the course. To roster, teachers need to follow these steps:

  1. Click on the blue “C” icon (for Clever) next to the class name.

  2. Assign the test(s) you want for the course. Scroll to the bottom and click “Continue”.

  3. Click “Continue” through the Shared Teachers, Students, and Assignments tabs.

  4. Click Save Class. At this point it should give you a link to Manage Students. Alternatively, go back to your classes page and click “Class Management.”

  5. On the Class Management page click the “Class User Import” button on the bottom right. It will pop up a message about adding students from the SSO service. Click “Import” in the bottom right. Your students for that class will automatically be added.

Assessments

Tutorial Video: Creating Assessments

USATestPrep provides a wide variety of pre-made test items, which can be fully preview by clicking on the question. Any assessments created can be shared with other teachers at your school to gather and assess data. Assessments can be created in Basic mode or Custom mode.

Basic

  • You select the length of the test.

  • USA TestPrep models the test after the blueprint of the SC state or National Test you select.

  • Can be used as a diagnostic

Custom

  • You can select specific standards.

  • You can select specific questions and you can sort them by:

    • popularity

    • DOK level

    • difficulty

Assessment Results

Once an assessment has been assigned to a class and students take the assessment, the USA TestPrep Dot Rank system provides a color-coated guide (red, yellow, green) that depicts each student's proficiency level by standard. This allows both the teacher and individual students to see which standard(s) need remediation. There are built-in links for teachers to assign individualized remediation to students.

Analysis:

  • You can view the overall % correct for each question as well as what % of your students selected each answer choice.

  • You can sort the questions by DOK level, standard, or % correct.

Individual Students can view their result to any assessment, including the date completed, time spent, and specific questions missed by clicking the "View" button.

Assessment Tips

  1. You may not want to show answers after the test is completed. This could allow cheating. You can choose to share answers in the assessment settings.

  2. You can favorite test items for easy access later in assessment creation.

Student-Paced Instruction: The Green Dot Challenge

Students can independently work through skills and content using the Green Dot Challenge. The Green Dot Challenge can be completed independently using a diagnostic or mixed with teacher-assigned content.

Assignments

Teachers can create assignments with 1 or 2+ activities. Games can be used in 2+ activity assignments as a great way to break up an obstacle course of activities, or you could use a game to reward students for completing their work.

A word of caution: creating multiple question assignments might not be the best use of the 2+ activities.

A suggested order is a video to activate prior knowledge, vocabulary to reinforce key terms, practice questions, and a performance task to apply knowledge in a different way.

Creating Assignments

When creating assignments, you can set the minimum score requirement to a value so that students can attempt multiple times, or you can have students take the assignment just once.

There is also the option to allow students to retry missed items. This would allow students to retry only the questions they missed.

You also have the ability to lock the assignment so that students can only access during a specified period of time. The assignment will show up on the student home page, but students would only be able to access it during the window of time specified.

You can see which students have completed/not completed the assignment(s) by clicking on the Settings icon.
