The Summer Lunch Series by Fresh Gatherings

The Summer Lunch Series is a project put on by the Fresh Gatherings team under the instruction of Chef Dan Brewer, in coordination with the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Saint Louis University. Members of the team included alumni Sarah Morissey and Madeline Nathe, as well as current senior Culinary Nutrition and Dietetics students, Amy San, Lissane Kafie, and Karly Wilson. The purpose of this lunch series was to share with the Saint Louis community Fresh Gatherings' vision of food and how we believe food should be presented and shared. This project also served as the perfect opportunity for students to demonstrate their creativity and culinary technique in a setting that they could receive constructive criticism from attendees. Every Thursday and Friday of June and July 2019, the team would create a full-service, multiple course lunch experience highlighting seasonal and local produce. Each menu release involved the team developing and testing recipes that showcased their culinary skill and expertise. The Summer Lunch Series also introduced pastries as the final course. These pastries were made by studying and utilizing modern techniques in the pastry world, and served as a precursor to the new Fall Pastry Series at Fresh Gatherings. Overall, the Summer Lunch Series was very well received by the community and presented those involved with feedback on ways to improve the series in years to come.

The group would like to thank their faculty sponsor Dan Brewer for their support of this project.
