Welcome to the 2021 Senior Legacy Symposium!
Our research focused on the recruiting and financial impacts that COVID-19 has had so far on intercollegiate athletics on the NCAA level. We conducted two surveys and collected over 1,200 responses from twenty sports and all three levels of competition. Our first part of research focused on the recruiting aspect and how various rule changes, recruiting restrictions, and extra years of eligibility would affect current student athletes, prospective student athletes, and college coaches. We found that with great uncertainty comes great responsibility on all fronts to continue to stay diligent in evaluation efforts on coaches' ends and communication efforts on the prospective student athletes' ends. Our second part of research looked into the financial situation of different institutions and analyzed how these different schools are dealing with the financial deficits that the pandemic has caused. As expected, most if not all schools have had a negative financial impact in part due to lost championships in spring 2020 and continuing on into shortened and adjusted seasons in 20-21. This opens new possibilities for innovation in financial recovery, as we saw different schools navigating in various ways. We hope to continue our research as we see the opportunity for it to be very beneficial to coaches and administrators, as well as student athletes trying to navigate the realm of the NCAA in our current climate.
