Welcome to the 2021 Senior Legacy Symposium!
Chopin's Scherzo no. 2 in Bb minor is among Chopin’s greatest compositions and one of the greatest pieces ever written for piano. Chopin was a prominent composer of the 19th century who wrote almost exclusively for the piano. He continues to be beloved to this day for his harmonic genius, his enchanting melodies, and his dazzling pianistic effects. This scherzo is nothing short of stunning: each theme provokes the listener’s curiosity as each new section is unpredictable and intriguing. Chopin combines moments of excitement, energy and suspense with song-like melodies and moments of tranquillity while showcasing virtuosic piano technique. James Huneker, a music critic of Chopin’s era, gave high praise to the piece: "What masterly writing, and it lies in the very heart of the piano! A hundred generations may not improve on these pages."

He recently completed his senior recital, an hour long program showcasing pieces by Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, and Debussy. Next year, Liam will continue his studies in piano performance by pursuing an MM at Butler University.
Liam would like to thank his faculty sponsor Aaron Johnson for their support with this project.
