Cool Reads & Cold Treats: Summer Reading Ice Cream Kickoff Party
Date and Time: Tuesday, June 4th, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Description: Get ready to churn up some fun as we celebrate the beginning of our summer reading program with a hands-on ice cream making activity! Roll up your sleeves and learn how to make your very own ice cream! From mixing the ingredients to adding your favorite toppings, this activity will be a deliciously fun experience for kids and parents alike.
You'll be among the first to register for our summer reading program and receive reading log instructions to kickstart your summer reading adventure.
This event promises to be a scrumptious and memorable way to launch a summer of reading, learning, and fun for the whole family. Ice cream supplies will be on a first come, first serve basis.
Staffing: 2 library staff members to oversee the activity, 2 library staff members to help register participants.
Budget: $150 for plastic bags, cream, salt, ice, and toppings.
Recycle Origami: Very Fun Programs
Date and Time: Tuesday, June 11th, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Description: Join us for a creative and eco-friendly adventure at our Recycled Origami Workshop, part of our Summer Reading Program! Children are invited to explore the art of origami while giving new life to recycled materials. In this hands-on workshop, young readers will learn the ancient Japanese art of origami and discover how to transform recycled paper into beautiful and intricate creations. From paper cranes to flowers, animals, and more, the possibilities are endless for breathing new life into old materials. (Lam, n.d.)
This program is perfect for children of all ages and skill levels, and all materials will be provided. Registration is limited to the first 100 registrants, but there will be a wait list for those interested once registration is full.

Drag Queen Storytime
Date and Time: Tuesday, June 18th, 6:00pm-7:00pm
Description: During Drag Queen Story Time, our special guest drag queens will read a selection of captivating and diverse stories that celebrate love, acceptance, and the beauty of being true to oneself. From classic fairy tales with a twist to modern children's books that promote inclusivity and kindness, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
This event is not only a celebration of literacy and imagination but also an opportunity to promote diversity, acceptance, and understanding in our community. Come dressed in your most fabulous attire and join us for a joyous and empowering celebration of storytelling and self-expression! (Chadwick, 2023)
Registration is required, and can be done online or in person. Registration is limited to the first 50 registrants, but there will be a wait list for those interested once registration is full.

The Arty Loon Show! Magic and More!
Date and Time: Tuesday, June 25th, 4:00pm-5:00pm
Description: Get ready for an enchanting and mesmerizing experience as we welcome the Arty Loon Magic Show! Arty Loon is a renowned magician and entertainer who brings laughter, wonder, and excitement wherever he goes. During this captivating magic show, Arty Loon will dazzle audiences of all ages with his sleight of hand, mind-bending illusions, and hilarious comedy routines. From disappearing acts to mind-reading tricks, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this interactive and family-friendly performance.
Arty Loon's show is not only entertaining but also educational, inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a love for the magical arts. Arty Loon creates an unforgettable experience that will leave audiences spellbound and wanting more. (Arts, n.d.)

Summer Lunch at the Library
Date and Time: Tuesday -Friday, 12pm-1pm, June 11th - August 2nd
Description: Join us for a free Summer Lunch at the Library each open weekday at the library. Kids 18 and under will be invited to partake in our free summer lunch in partnership with LA County parks and recreation department and the California State Library.
Lunch is provided first come, first serve. Participants are required to keep the lunch in the meeting room.
Staff: 1 full time staff member and 2 part time employees. (The partnership has allowed us to hire 2 part time employees specifically to assist with this program.)
Budget: n/a this is a grant funded program through our partnerships.
