January's Theme: Winter Wonderland
This January at the library we will be celebrating all things winter. Join us for our recurring programs as well as the following special events.
Please be sure to check out our displays in the children's area for popular titles on the subject.
Winter Cookie Decorating
Date and Time: Thursday, January 4th, 4:00-5:00pm
Description: Get into the festive spirit with our Snowman Cookie Decorating Fun! Children of all ages are invited to join us for an afternoon of winter wonder as we transform ordinary cookies into adorable snowmen masterpieces.
Participants will receive freshly baked sugar cookies shaped like snowmen, ready to be decorated with icing, candies, and sprinkles. Our friendly staff will be on hand to provide guidance and inspiration as kids design their unique snowman creations.
This hands-on activity encourages imagination, fine motor skills, and of course, lots of fun! Whether it's adding a carrot nose, button eyes, or a colorful scarf, every child will enjoy bringing their snowman cookie to life.
Registration is required, and can be done online or in person. Registration is limited to the first 30 registrants, but there will be a wait list for those interested once registration is full.
Staffing: 1 librarian and 1 library staff member
Budget: $60 for cookies and decorating supplies.
Ina the Sunshine Storyteller
Date and Time: Thursday, January 18th, 4:00-5:00pm
Description: Join us as Ina the Sunshine Storyteller presents Winter Wonderland: wintery stories and songs from around the world. Ina the Sunshine Storyteller will make you laugh, sing, and spread your wings with enchanting and uplifting tales and tunes this winter at the library. (Bucknor-Barnette, 2024)
Registration is required, and can be done online or in person. Registration is limited to the first 100 registrants, but there will be a wait list for those interested once registration is full.
Staffing: 1 librarian and 1 library staff member
Budget: $400 for the performer
Book Character Silhouette
Date and Time: Passive activity, available during open hours all month long
Description: Stop by the children's information desk to get a copy of the Book Character Silhouette form. Find favorite library characters hidden throughout the children's area of the library and decode a secret message for a prize. (Krabbenhoft, 2018) While supplies last!
Staffing: Information Desk Staff
Budget: $20 for the prizes
