August's Theme: Back to School
This August at the library we will be celebrating going back to school. Join us for our recurring programs as well as the following special events.

"Ready, Set, Backpack!"
Date and Time: Tuesday, August 6th, 3:00-5:00pm
Description: Gear up for success with our "Ready, Set, Backpack!" program at the Holmes Public Library! As the new school year approaches, we're excited to provide free backpacks filled with essential supplies to help students start the year off right. From notebooks to pencils, these backpacks are packed with everything students need to tackle their academic adventures with confidence.
We've partnered with the city of Lancaster, the Children's Center of the AV, and several other organizations to provide free school supplies to our community.
Don't miss this opportunity to equip students with the tools they need for a successful school year! Join us for our "Ready, Set, Backpack!" program and help students start the year off prepared and empowered. We can't wait to see you there!
There is no registration for this event, backpacks will be provided on a first come first serve basis.
Staffing: 2 library staff members, there will be hosts from our partners as well.
Budget: $100 for light refreshments, the library will also provide some crafts during the event as well.
Feathered Friends Bird Feeder Workshop
Date and Time: Friday, August 30th, 3:30pm-5:00pm
Get ready to welcome a flurry of feathered guests to your backyard with our "Feathered Friends Bird Feeder Workshop"! Join us for an engaging and educational event where you'll learn all about local bird species and how to create your own bird feeders using simple materials.
Get hands-on and unleash your creativity as you craft your very own bird feeders using recycled materials. From pine cones coated in peanut butter and birdseed to upcycled milk cartons transformed into feeding stations, there's a feeder design for every skill level and budget.
Don't miss this exciting opportunity to connect with nature and create a haven for our feathered friends. Whether you're a bird enthusiast or simply curious about backyard birdwatching, the "Feathered Friends Bird Feeder Workshop" is sure to inspire and delight.
Registration is required, and can be done online or in person. Registration is limited to the first 50 registrants, but there will be a wait list for those interested once registration is full.
Staffing: 1 librarian and 1 library staff member.
Budget: $100 for art supplies.
Young Explorers join us for STEM activities
Date and Time: All month long during open hours
Embark on a journey of discovery with our exciting collection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Discovery Kits, specially curated for young explorers. Designed to ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and inspire hands-on learning, our STEM kits offer endless opportunities for children to explore the wonders of the world around them.
This passive library program invites young learners to dive into the fascinating world of STEM at their own pace. With our diverse range of STEM Discovery Kits available for library use, children have the freedom to explore various scientific concepts and engineering principles through engaging activities and experiments.
Staffing: 1 librarian to monitor the activity area.
Budget: $50 for some bins and extra building supplies.
