Words That Inspire Poetry Collage with Rae Shaw
Date and Time: Tuesday, April 9th, 4:00pm-5:30pm
Description: Experience the transformative power of words through poetry and collage with acclaimed poet and artist, Rae Shaw. Join us for an inspiring performance that combines spoken word poetry with visual artistry to create a unique and engaging experience.
Prepare to be captivated by the magic of language as Rae Shaw takes you on a journey through the world of poetry and collage. In this dynamic performance, Rae will share original poetry that explores themes of identity, culture, nature, and the human experience.
This performance is not only a celebration of poetry and visual art but also a reflection on the power of words to inspire, provoke thought, and ignite creativity. Whether you're an avid poetry lover, a seasoned artist, or simply curious to explore the intersection of language and art, this family event promises to be a memorable and enriching experience. Registration is required, and can be done online or in person. Registration is limited to the first 50 registrants, but there will be a wait list for those interested once registration is full.
Staffing: 1 librarian and 1 library staff member to oversee the program
Budget: $350 for the performer
Celebrate El día de los niños/El día de los libros: Books, Reading, and Piñata Making!
Date and Time: Wednesday, April 24th, 5:00pm-6:00pm
Description: Join us in recognition of El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day) as we celebrate children and families with a special event at. Enjoy a fun-filled evening of books, reading, and creativity as we come together to make paper bag piñatas!
Celebrate the joy of reading and the importance of diversity in literature with our El día de los niños/El día de los libros event! This multicultural celebration highlights the richness of children's literature and the importance of literacy for children of all backgrounds.
During this interactive program, children and families will have the opportunity to explore a diverse selection of children's books in English and Spanish, featuring stories that celebrate culture, identity, and the joy of reading. Participants will then get creative and crafty with our paper bag piñata-making activity! Children will have a blast decorating and filling paper bags to create their own mini piñatas, perfect for fiestas and celebrations.
Registration is required, and can be done online or in person. Registration is limited to the first 50 registrants, but there will be a wait list for those interested once registration is full.
Staffing: 1 librarian and 1 bilingual library staff member
Budget: $100 for craft and snack supplies.
Poetry Corner: Verse Prompts Galore!
Date and Time: All month long, during open hours.
Description: Calling all young poets and poetry enthusiasts! Visit our Poetry Corner and let your creativity flow with our collection of verse prompts. Whether you're a budding bard, a lyrical luminary, or simply love to play with words, this program is perfect for exploring the beauty and power of poetry.
Whether you're writing about love, nature, dreams, or the human experience, the Poetry Corner is your sanctuary to express yourself through the rhythmic beauty of verse. We can't wait to read the poetry you create!
Staffing: 1 library staff member to monitor the display throughout the month
Budget: n/a We will use supplies we have on hand.
