2 Nephi 11: 8 "And now I write some of the words of Isaiah, that whoso of my people shall see these words may lift up their hearts and rejoice..."
Vase of the Eleven Gods by Justin Kerr 1998
"In view of its importance, together with all that the prophets have said about it before us, we feel like dropping a few ideas in connection with the official statements from the government concerning the Indians. In speaking of the gathering, we mean to be understood as speaking of it according to scripture, the gathering of the elect of the Lord out of every nation on earth, and bringing them to the place of the Lord of Hosts, when the city of righteousness shall be built, and where the people shall be of one heart and one mind, when the Savior comes: yea, where the people shall walk with God like Enoch, and be free from sin. The word of the Lord is precious; and when we read that the veil spread over all nations will be destroyed, and the pure in heart see God, and reign with Him a thousand years on earth, we want all honest men to have a chance to gather and build up a city of righteousness, where even upon the bells of the horses shall be written “Holiness to the Lord.” The Book of Mormon has made known who Israel is, upon this continent. And while we behold the government of the United States gathering the Indians, and locating them upon lands to be their own, how sweet it is to think that they may one day be gathered by the Gospel!" -- DHC 2:357.
Lehi was a descendent of "Joseph" through his oldest son "Mannaseh" (Alma 10:3) & Nephi choose to quote specific chapters of Isaiah, which speak of a future world leader, who will rise up among the Lamanites...
A theme he repeated when he included his father Lehi's last blessing to his brother Joseph - 2 Nephi 3:24
"...because of this covenant thou art blessed; for thy seed shall not be destroyed, for they shall hearken unto the words of the book. And there shall rise up one mighty among them, who shall do much good, both in word and in deed, being an instrument in the hands of God"
Which seems to be backed up by other biblical prophets -
Ezekiel 34:23-24
"And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it"
Ezekiel 37:21-25 - 22
"And I will make them [Judah & Manasseh] one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, ...And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes,
Jeremiah 30:8-9
"...they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
Jeremiah 33:15-22
"...at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land... For thus saith the Lord; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;
History of the Church, 4:457 - Dedication of Israel by Orson Hyde
"Do Thou now also be pleased to inspire the hearts of kings and the powers of the earth to look with a friendly eye towards this place, and with a desire to see Thy righteous purposes executed in relation thereto. Let them know that it is Thy good pleasure to restore the kingdom unto Israel–raise up Jerusalem as its capital, and constitute her people a distinct nation and government, with David Thy servant, even a descendant from the loins of ancient David to be their king."
Victory O Lord!, 1871 by John Everett Millais, depicts Moses, assisted by Aaron and Hur, holding up his arms during the battle against Amalek.
"Beit Lehi", Israel ("The House of Lehi") - May 13, 2011
Moses 7 (specifically verses 50-52, 60-65) is an event in history where God was going to end the whole world, but Enoch talked him out of it. The Father then made a covenant with Enoch that his City would return when "a remnant" of Enoch's descendants built the New Jerusalem (Zion)
3 Nephi 21, Christ speaks to the Lamanites gathered around him saying "and shall establish again among them my Zion" + "concerning this people who are a remnant" + "that the covenant of the Father may be fulfilled which he hath covenanted with his people" + "And they [gentiles] shall assist my people, the remnant of Jacob, and also as many of the house of Israel as shall come, THAT THEY MAY BUILD A CITY, which shall be called the New Jerusalem" (see also Ether 13 & 3 Nephi 11)
Huh... the guys who are currently in charge [gentiles] of Jackson county Missouri are NOT the ones who will build the New Jerusalem. The descendants of Lehi (Manasseh) are the ones who build it. Now, there's a new idea...
1 Nephi 12 (11-15) is a vision & prophesy of Christ coming to America (~600 years before it happens) and 3.5 generations of peace, then genocide of the Nephite Nation... The last few verses predict that the Laman-ites will "dwindle in unbelief" as the generations pass and that they will forget the voyage of Lehi to America, the visitation of Christ to their ancenstors, and their promise/birth right of building the New Jerusalem
Chapters 13-15 prophesy about the coming of Columbus, Spanish conquering native Americans, USA becoming a nation, USA persecuting Indians, eventual fall of "gentile nations"... and Lamanites rise to power/building New Jerusalem
Of interest, these chapters are very similar to Christ's speech (3 Nephi 20-25) to the people assembled at the temple in the land bountiful - Nephi & Christ appear to be talking about the same future events...
Alma 34:14 - "...behold, this is the whole meaning of the law, every whit pointing to that great and last sacrifice; and that GREAT and LAST sacrifice will be the Son of God, yea, infinite and eternal."
That is the one we are most familiar with, often quoted.
Less often quoted, from the "Teaching of Joseph Smith", https://scriptures.byu.edu/tpjs/STPJS.pdf - TPJS 172
Sacrifice to Be Part of Restoration
It will be necessary here to make a few observations on the doctrine set forth in the above quotation, and it is generally supposed that sacrifice was entirely done away when the Great Sacrifice [i.e.,] the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus was offered up, and that there will be no necessity for the ordinance of sacrifice in future; but those who assert this are certainly not acquainted with the duties, privileges and authority of the Priesthood, or with the Prophets.
The offering of sacrifice has ever been connected and forms a part of the duties of the Priesthood. It began with the Priesthood, and will be continued until after the coming of Christ, from generation to generation. We frequently have mention made of the offering of sacrifice by the servants of the Most High in ancient days, prior to the law of Moses; which ordinances will be continued when the Priesthood is restored with all its authority, power and blessings.
The Keys of Priesthood
The next great, grand Patriarch [after Enoch] who held the keys of the Priesthood was Lamech. “And Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years and begat a son, and he called his name Noah, saying, this same shall comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.” (See Genesis 5:28-29.)
The Priesthood continued from Lamech to Noah: “And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them and behold I will destroy them with the earth.” (Genesis 6:13.)
Thus we behold the keys of this Priesthood consisted in obtaining the voice of Jehovah that He talked with him [Noah] in a familiar and friendly manner, that He continued to him the keys, the covenants, the power and the glory, with which He blessed Adam at the beginning; and the offering of sacrifice, which also shall be continued at the last time; for all the ordinances and duties that ever have been required by the Priesthood, under the directions and commandments of the Almighty in any of the dispensations, shall all be had in the last dispensation, therefore all things had under the authority of the Priesthood at any former period, SHALL BE HAD AGAIN, bringing to pass the restoration spoken of by the mouth of all the Holy Prophets; THEN SHALL THE SONS OF LEVI OFFER AND ACCEPTABLE OFFERING TO THE LORD - And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord.” (See Malachi 3:3)(edited)
I am 54 yrs old, and I do not remember ever hearing of this before... but, it is VERY old doctrine... very Hebrew doctrine...
Again, I have always read it as history... but, the intent of the text is obviously about the FUTURE.
Sometimes the TRUTH is right in front of you...
Then the remnant of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, shall be like dew from the Lord, like showers on the grass, which do not depend upon people or wait for any mortal. 8And among the nations the remnant of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, shall be like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep, which, when it goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, with no one to deliver. 9Your hand shall be lifted up over your adversaries, and all your enemies shall be cut off. 10In that day, says the Lord, I will cut off your horses from among you and will destroy your chariots; 11and I will cut off the cities of your land and throw down all your strongholds; 12and I will cut off sorceries from your hand, and you shall have no more soothsayers; 13and I will cut off your images and your pillars from among you, and you shall bow down no more to the work of your hands; 14and I will uproot your sacred poles from among you and destroy your towns.
