May 8 - Sunshine!

Post date: May 8, 2011 12:45:55 PM

Finally, a warm sunny day!

Previously, I had a countdown for the number of days until the woods were in full bloom.

I just realized that there is no single day of peak bloom- the peaks come in waves, the flowers bloom in groups.

So far, I have observed these groupings- psychologically, this revelation has extended the life of the spring season for me.

1) bloodroot, anemone, duchman's breeches, hepatica

2) Virginia bluebells, trout lily, toothwort, white trillium, jack-in-the-pulpit

3) celandine poppy, greek valerian, red trillium, yellow trillium, shooting star

4) woodland phlox, may apple, columbine

Today, I plan to take a photo of the white trillium, that are finally multiplying- a few are actually of grand size.

Next- I have my eye out to find most beautiful examples of natural inter-planting; plants that seem to enjoy each others company...the best composition I can find.
