June 12 - bird watching

2013: not my best year; managed to break both my wrists in May.

On the bright side, recovering offered me the opportunity to sit in my sun room for hours on end bird watching.

We eliminated bird feeders years ago from our yard, because they were dumped almost daily by deer or raccoon.

Instead, we rely on native plants to provide food- better nutritionally for them also.

This spring I have seen a good variety of bird species daily; many have made their home here building nests and producing offspring:

american goldfinch

eastern bluebird

american robin

northern cardinal

ruby-throated hummingbird

turkey vulture

northern flicker

barn swallow

blue jay

american crow

house wren

indigo bunting

Not bad for a single view out the back windows......
