Today I feel that winter is finally over! yeah!

The weather is warm, and I had a chance to walk the yard several times to wind down from work.

I spotted a few small blooms among the trees: hepatica, blood root and pasque flower. Only a few plants, these are the first of the first.

Shooting star, Virginia blue bells, Dutchman's breeches and prairie smoke all had some leaves peaking up through the soil and fallen leaves.

Bird's accompanying my walk were: red bellied woodpecker, cardinal, blue bird, black capped chickadee and turkey vulture.

New observation- the bark on a 350 yr old oak.

The oak grows into a south facing slope, it leans into the slope; its branches are gnarled and weathered. On the slope (north) side, the bark is uncommonly thick, almost as thick as my finger is long....on the south side, the bark appears much thinner. I plan to take a photo of the texture- it is striking.

Ahhhh spring.
