May 14 - new discovery

A favorite joy is finding a new plant in the yard-

Often I find that that existing species have moved to a new location, filling in open space.

Once in a while I find a new plant I have never seen before on the property.

Today I discovered a single purple meadow parsnip in the woods, Thaspium trifoliatum.

There is only one in the entire woods.

I looked back on my records and found that I planted the seed in fall 2009 included in a Prairie Moon mix.

Patience pays off, and so does maintaining a spreadsheet.
