It is the 23r largest at 65,498 square miles and the 20th most populated with over 5.7 million residents. In 1848, it was the 30th state to be admitted into the U.S. It is second to Michigan when it comes to the length of its Great Lakes coastline. Many know the state as "America's Dairyland" because it is one of the U.S.'s leading dairy producers, particularly for its cheese.
