Alaska is a state located in the northwest extremity of North America. It is the largest state at 663,300 square miles, however it is the 3rd least populous with just over 741,000 residents. Which makes it the most sparsely populated state in the U.S., yet the most populous territory located north of the 60th parallel in North America. Half of the residents live within the Anchorage metropolitan area and the economy is dominated by fishing, natural gas, and oil industries. The U.S. purchased Alaska form the Russian Empire back in 1867 for 7.2 million usd, which equalled out to about two cents per an acre.
