Georgia is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is the 24th largest state at 59,425 square miles and the 8th most populated with over 10.3 million residents. It was the last state of the Thirteen Colonies and the 4th to ratify the U.S. Constitution. In 1861 Georgia declared secession from the Union and became part of the original seven Confederate states. It is known as the Peach State and the Empire State of the South.
