Ubiquity 101

While the Ubiquity system uses a dice pool mechanic, it isn't one in the traditional sense.

The game system uses Attribute + Skill + applicable modifiers (like range, night, Talents, Flaws, etc.) to give you a Skill Rating. This is compared to the Difficulty of the task. The average Difficulty is a 2, but it could be higher or lower depending on situation. You roll a number of dice (of any type) equal to your Skill Rating, and count up either the evens or the odds and those are your successes at the task. Any successes above the Difficulty enhances the success of the task. The game also allows players to Take the Average (TtA) on the dice, and this speeds up play tremendously. While one normally doesn't TtA in combat, GMs may allow this if the combat isn't a dire one or if its relevance is minimal. -- JohnK
