Identifying Magical Items
A Short Rest to Identify
A character can attempt to identify one magic item each short rest. At the end of the short rest they must make an Arcana (or Religion or Nature, at DM discretion) check at a moderate DC for the level of the item. If there is no need to rush, the character may take ten on this check. Success lets them ascertain all properties of the item, failure and that character may not attempt to identify that item again until they've had a short rest. Note: rare magic items will check at a hard DC for the level of the item.
Identifying Ritual Scrolls / Alchemical Blueprints / Martial Practice Scrolls
A character with the appropriate feat may attempt to identify up to three ritual scrolls each short rest. At the end of the short rest they must make an Arcana (or whichever skill the ritual/blueprint/practice relies on) check at an easy DC for the level of the item. If there is no need to rush, the character may take ten on this check. Success lets them identify the scrolls and they may attempt to master it as normal.
Identifying Potions
A character may attempt to identify up to three potions each short rest. At the end of the short rest they must make an Arcana (or Religion or Nature, at DM discretion) check at a moderate DC for the level of the item. If there is no need to rush, the character may take ten on this check. A character that knows the brew potion ritual checks at an easy DC for the level of the item.
