in an apple tree!
The RGB Light combines three interests:
While I was looking for something complete different, I found the really create github SW project from Tobias Blum where he published McLighting - The ESP8266 based multi-client lighting gadget. I was fascinated by this code so addapted into a ESP01 and 24 LED-Ring.
I took a piece of apple tree, milled a cavity in the bottom, laser cut a cover and added simply a DC/DC converter in order to use a simple power supply. Fortunately I had a old plastic bowl from a bulb laying around so the combination is quit nice
I've completely adapted Tobias' piece of code. This comes with a GUI which looks like
The piece of wood from our apple tree was fitting perfectly, however still after storing one year it still doesn't stop to shrink due to evaporation of water... As of toda it's hard to remove the cover to get to the electronic in the cavity inside. In any case, there is just a DC/DC converter to provide 5V/1A and an additional linear regulator to run the ESP01 with 3.3V. Do you spot the power supply inlet?
On the top side I've milled a gap with my router to hold the LED ring and additional bottle/bulb
In the end it looks like below
