CO2 indicator

Purpose

given the Covid-19 situation, it's essential to minimize aerosols in the room. According several researchs, there is a good correlation between CO2 and possible virus inside a room.

See therefor the investigation/report from University Trier called "COVID-19 Prävention: CO2-Messung und bedarfsorientierte Lüftung". Inspired by the Make-magazin 5/20 ant the article for CO2-traffic light I've started my own project

Function

While the OLED will display the measurments, the idea is to clearly indicate by different colours the concentration of CO2 in a room and the neccesitty of ventilation to lower concentration of possible virus contamination.

Blockdiagram

The blockdiagram shows all connected components, where OLED, CCS811 and BME are connected on the I²C bus.

The button field consits out of three tactical buttons, which will be connected to GND once pressed

Hardware

  • Arduino Nano

  • OLED display

  • BME280 source

  • CCS811 Sensor source / datasheet

  • optional MQ-2 Sensor

  • WS2812B RGB LED

  • Ribba picture frame (23x23 cm) from Ikea

  • tactical buttons

  • 3D-prints for

Outlook

for further reporting, a WiFi based module (such as ESP8266) could be used. By using this, all readings can easily be transfered to the cloud and processed over there
