I wrote most of this in 2013 but it didn't really come together until 2017. Still isn't, quite. This recording is another one-man band experiment made in July, 2017. I heard it as electric as it was emerging in my mind, but other interpretations might work too. Here is a very simple rap version. Add loops and effects, and, well......
Lyrics
At the market today there was someone to greet you
But when you went to pay the computer tried to cheat you.
So if that's the way they really want to treat you
You could take your business somewhere else.
You know you're overpaying for everything you're buyin'
And all those ads they're playing are just a bunch of lyin'.
Sadly some are saying they can't be blamed for tryin'
But you might take your business somewhere else.
I ask you how long are you gonna take it?
Tell me how long you gonna put up with the bull.
I ask you how long are you gonna take it?
Tell me how long 'till you’ve got a belly full.
Banks call ‘em fees, but I call it stealing.
They mislead with ease, make it all so appealing,
But read that legalese please. It's really quite revealing
And you just might take your business somewhere else.
You’re just getting by and now they want to cut your health care.
Doctors do try but they know they’re getting nowhere.
Watch people die as their neighbors refuse to share
Then try to take your business somewhere else.
I ask you how long are you gonna take it?
Tell me how long you gonna put up with the bull.
I ask you how long are you gonna take it?
Tell me how long 'till you’ve got a belly full.
In the parking lot you're aware of danger.
On you own home block you're wary of the stranger.
Just one stray shot could be a life changer
And you can't just take your family somewhere else.
Now there’s folks around who will always try to fake you.
Any way they've found, they will always try to take you,
But if you stand your ground and let nobody shake you
They'll have to take their business somewhere else.
So I ask you how long are you gonna take it?
Tell me how long you gonna put up with the bull.
I ask you how long are you gonna take it?
Tell me how long 'till you’ve got a belly full.
Just tell ‘em right now that you’re not gonna take it.
Tell em’ right now. No more bull.
Tell ‘em right now. You’re not gonna take it.
Tell ‘em right now that you’ve got a belly full.
