I wrote this in February, 2005 and recorded it in 2007 when I was playing with a new piece of software that allowed me to overdub. The inspiration came from Mark Graham's song, Life is Hard, But Life Is Hardest When You're Dumb.
Lyrics
When I woke up this morning I thought I’d be OK
But it’s turning out to be just another average day
Of being dumb.
But this can be overcome.
At least that’s the way it seems to me in my delirium.
My girlfriend went and left me, she ran off with my pal.
I guess that’s ‘cause she caught me sleeping with that other gal,
Now that was dumb.
But it can be overcome.
At least that’s the way it seems to me in my delirium.
I started off to work so that I could make some pay
But then I remembered I’d been fired yesterday
For being dumb.
You know this can be overcome.
At least that’s the way it seems to me in my delirium.
I went down to the local bar to get a bite to eat
But the bouncer said he knew me and he threw me in the street
For being dumb,
But this can be overcome.
At least that’s the way it seems to me in my delirium.
The landlord came to see me. He came to get the rent
But I’d spent it all on women and I didn’t have a cent.
Now that was dumb.
But it can be overcome.
At least that’s the way it seems to me in my delirium.
You know I never read no books, I never went to school
I couldn’t make it on my looks but I could make it as a fool
'Cause I was dumb.
You know it couldn't be overcome.
At least that’s the way it seemed to them in their delirium.
Now, some people think I’m lazy to avoid their stress and strife
But I’d rather act crazy, live the simple life
And stay dumb.
Trying not to overcome
What I know is truly mine -- my delirium.
