I heard this story from a bus driver in Juneau Alaska in June, 2013. I think I remember hearing something similar once before. It just had to be a song. I am assured it's all true, except maybe the part about Fish and Game.
2015 Update. Seems there is a basis for this. Thanks to Linda Roberts for the NY Times link.
Lyrics
Once there was an eagle who had caught a great big fish.
It was a spawning salmon and would make a tasty dish.
She'd lifted off with her catch and headed home once more
But today would be a day like she had never seen before.
Because today she'd down an airplane, yes she would.
Her home was near the runway of a small Alaska town.
The cargo planes would come and go, moving goods around.
They had their counter measures for an eagle seen in flight.
They were to fly below it while turning to the right.
But today she'd down an airplane, yes she would.
No one had told the eagles 'bout the proper protocol.
They knew that all the air belonged to eagles after all.
So when the plane came at her she did not know what to do.
She panicked, muttered something, dropped her fish and off she flew.
Today she'd down an airplane, yes she would.
That fish it hit the windshield of a big ol' cargo jet
And it cracked it top to bottom, lots of damage, yeah, you bet.
The pilots landed safely at a nearby landing strip.
But it took about two weeks for their new parts to come by ship.
That fish had downed their airplane, yes it could.
Everybody found it funny 'cept the folks at Fish and Game.
Seems the pilot wasn't licensed for fishing from a plane.
So they fined him twenty dollars which he promised he would pay
And the eagle caught another fish and headed on her way.
And that fish could down an airplane, yes it could.
Now there's no moral to this story, at least none that I can see.
I just though it was funny when a friend told it to me.
You can look it up in Guiness, you will find the record there
How an eagle with a salmon knocked an airplane from the air.
That fish could down an airplane, yes it could.
A flying fish could down your airplane, yes it could.
