SAM-SON

In the time of the Judges of the Old Testament, Samson was the champion of Israel. He was a man, "given unto the Lord", by his mother.  We know that Samson was blessed with superhuman strength when he kept the commandments of the Lord.

Yet he would lose his great miraculous strength when he disobeyed and became Idolatrous.

Samson is also associated with the Sun, Bright, full of strength and energy ( as we see with his Intellect, wit, and power over his enemies). We see him, full of light, power and glory, when he obeyed the lord and fall to despair when he went contrary.  The sad story of Samson became a tragedy for the man.  He represented the Lord, he was commissioned by the lord to be the Sun and Shield towards the people of Israel.

"The Lord is the Sun and Shield towards His people who, in their covenant power and glory, reflect His great light to be as the Sun among other nations and people, literally " A light unto the Gentiles

We see in the story of Samson the Story of America.

Sam

 America

William Walker in his book "In The Isles of the Sea (Trafford publishing, pp233) States "that there are various opinions as to how and where America came to be named "Sam" or "Uncle Sam."

The one that he most favours is given from the first World War, When America sent supplies to their forces serving in Europe. He tells us that each crate of goods was stencilled S.A.M indicating "Supplies for the American Military," and so was born the name Sam. He concludes that the troops added the "Uncle"  to indicate from back home.
