The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Elder Patrick Kearon called as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called on Thursday, December 7, 2023, and ordained later that day by President Russel M. Nelson and the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest presiding body in the government of the Church. In addition to their primary responsibility to be special witnesses of the name of Christ throughout the world, these Apostles have significant administrative responsibilities in overseeing the operation and development of a global Church. They serve under the direction of the First Presidency, which includes the Church President and two counsellors.

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
This scripture was read and pondered by the 14-year-old boy, Joseph Smith before he went to the "Scared Grove" and received the first vision.
(King James Version of the Bible James 1:5.)

The below quote is taken from the official website of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Doctrine and Covenants and Church History Study Guide for Home-Study Seminary Students, 2013 Unit18: Day3 Doctrine and Covenants 85-86.
"The reference to the “one mighty and strong” (D&C 85:7) who is to set in order the house of God and the reference to one who“putteth forth his hand to steady the ark” (D&C 85:8) have been used by many apostates to justify their falling away from the Church. They claim that various Presidents of the Church have lost favor with God and are rejected and that they, the apostates, are the “one mighty and strong” called by God to set things right. Such claims contradict the meaning of the scriptures. In an official statement issued in 1905, the First Presidency (Joseph F. Smith, John R. Winder, and Anthon H. Lund) discussed the circumstances that brought this revelation forth and those to whom these two phrases referred:
“It is to be observed first of all that the subject of this whole letter [the Prophet’s letter to William W. Phelps], as also the part of it subsequently accepted as a revelation [D&C 85], relates to the affairs of the Church in Missouri, the gathering of the Saints to that land and obtaining their inheritances under the law of consecration and stewardship; and the Prophet deals especially with the matter of what is to become of those who fail to receive their inheritances by order or deed from the bishop.…“It was while these conditions of rebellion, jealousy, pride, unbelief and hardness of heart prevailed among the brethren in Zion—Jackson county, Missouri—in all of which Bishop Partridge participated, that the words of the revelation taken from the letter to William W. Phelps, of the 27th of November, 1832, were written. The ‘man who was called and appointed of God’ to ‘divide unto the Saints their inheritance’—Edward Partridge—was at that time out of order, neglecting his own duty, and putting ‘forth his hand to steady the ark’; hence, he was warned of the judgment of God impending, and the prediction was made that another, ‘one mighty and strong,’ would be sent of God to take his place, to have his bishopric—one having the spirit and power of that high office resting upon him, by which he would have power to ‘set in order the house of God, and arrange by lot the inheritance of the Saints’; in other words, one who would do the work that Bishop Edward Partridge had been appointed to do, but had failed to accomplish.…
“…And inasmuch as through his repentance and sacrifices and suffering, Bishop Edward Partridge undoubtedly obtained a mitigation of the threatened judgment against him of falling ‘by the shaft of death, like as a tree that is smitten by the vivid shaft of lightning,’ so the occasion for sending another to fill his station—‘one mighty and strong to set in order the house of God, and to arrange by lot the inheritances of the Saints’—may also be considered as having passed away and the whole incident of the prophecy closed” (in JamesR. Clark, comp.,Messages of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,6 vols. [1965–75], 4:112, 115, 117.)
However there have been many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that have also postulated that the scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 85:7. refers and applies to The Prophet Joseph Smith. Others expound that it is in fact a reference to the Saviour Jesus Christ. However none of these views are correct. Although Joseph Smith's calling was "like unto Moses" in that Joseph Smith was and is a Prophet, Seer and Restorator of Gods Word. That is, that he was and is, in very fact the Prophet who "Restored to the world" in this the last dispensation, The Fullness of the the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Ensign that He set up was however only the "Ecclesiastical Law" of the Kingdom of God. This Ensign became known to the world as THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS.
When we read D&C 85:7 we must read this scripture in conjunction with Isaiah 11:10 if fact we must read from verse 10 to 16 and then ponder on it. For verse 10 tell us that it must be in that day [from] a "root out of Jesse" that the LORD will raise up a prophet who's rest will be glorious. We know that Jesse is the father of king David so this prophet that the Lord will raise up must be a descendant of Jesse or in part be a descendant of Jesse. (Of the Royal Blood line The Tribe of Judah.)
Joseph Smith does not fit this description of the "Prophet like unto Moses", who the LORD will raised up in the last day.
No Joseph Smith is not this person, because Joseph Smith is not a root out of Jesse or a branch out of Jesse.
For Joseph Smith to have brought forth the Book of Mormon He had to be of the linage of Ephraim and a "Pure Ephraimite" He is, so the Book of Mormon tell us a "literal descendant" of that Joseph who was sold into Egypt.
Nevertheless Joseph Smith fits the description so far, in that he did set up 1. Ensign to the Nations or World.
2. The He was Mighty & strong
3. Held the Scepter of power. ? The Scepter of Power is a reference to the Throne of David
4. clothed with light And Uttered eternal words.
10 ¶And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
13 The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.
14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.
15 And the Lord shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dry shod.
16 And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
