Latin Bible

Week 11, December 2

Homework:

• Finish memorizing the Pater Noster (we will recite next week)

• Finish memorizing the Veni Veni Emmanuel (we will recite next week)

• Prepare for our exam next week.

  • Use the attached study guide to study the Latin vocabulary from this semester. 

  • Review the readings from this semester and use the quizzes to study (I will draw many of the test questions from those on the quizzes).

Week 10, November 18

Homework:

• Continue memorizing the Pater Noster

• Continue working on Veni Veni Emmanuel

We will have recitations on both the prayer and song on our final day of class.

There is no new Bible reading or Latin Vocabulary for the break. We will take our final exam on our last day of class, however, so I suggest that you begin reviewing if you have the time. The exam will cover the Latin vocabulary from the entire semester and will also include questions from all of the Bible stories. We spent today's class reviewing the Bible stories and we will spend out next class period reviewing as well. 

Week 9, November 11

Homework:

1. Begin learning the Pater Noster  (the Our Father in Latin).

2. Begin learning Veni Veni Emmanuel (O Come O Come Emmanuel in Latin) with the help of this recording. We will be memorizing the first verse only.

3. There is no new Bible reading for this week but there is a new worksheet on the reading about Joseph. Complete the worksheet for next week.

4. Study the new Latin vocabulary and complete the Latin Worksheet.

Week 8, November 4

Homework:

1. Finish memorizing the Tantum Ergo and prepare for recitations next week.

2. Study the new Latin vocabulary and complete the Latin Worksheet.

3. Read pages 86-94 in the Children's Bible and complete the Bible worksheet.

Week 7, October 28

Homework:

1. Finish memorizing the Gloria Patri and prepare for recitations next week.

2. Continue working on Tantum Ergo with the help of the recording.

3. Study the new Latin vocabulary and complete the Latin Worksheet.

4. Read pages 76-85 in the Children's Bible and complete the Bible worksheet.

Week 6, October 21st

Homework:

1. Work on memorizing the Gloria Patri.

2. Continue learning the Tantum Ergo.

3. Study the new Latin vocabulary.

4. Read pages 64-75 in the Children's Bible and complete the Bible worksheet.

Week 5, October 7th

Homework:

1. Begin memorizing the Gloria Patri.

2. Begin learning the Tantum Ergo using this recording .

3. Read pages 54-63 in the Children's Bible and complete he Bible worksheet.

4. Study the new Latin vocabulary (no worksheet for this week).

Week 4, September 30th

Homework for next week:

1. Practice the Ave Maria and prepare for recitations next week, October 7th.

2. Practice the Adoro Te Devote and prepare for recitations next week, October 7th.

3. Study the new Latin vocabulary and complete the worksheet.

4. Read pages 42-52 in the Children's Bible (there is no Bible worksheet this week).

Week 3, September 23rd

Homework for next week:

1. Practice the Ave Maria for 3-5 minutes each day. 

2. Practice the Adoro Te Devote for 3-5 minutes each day.

3. Study the new Latin words (parts of the house) and complete the Latin Worksheet.

4. Read pages 34-41 in the Children's Bible and complete the Bible worksheet.

Week 2, September 16th

Homework for next week:

1. Practice the Ave Maria for 3-5 minutes each day

2. Practice the Adoro Te Devote for 3-5 minutes each day (using the recording posted last week)

3. Review the Latin greetings (they will be included on next week's quiz)

4. Read pages 24-33 in the Children's Bible and complete the Bible worksheet handed out in class

Week 1, September 9th

We began our first day of class with introductions and classroom expectations. We emphasized in particular the importance of helping our classmates grow in virtue by not becoming a distraction to them during class. 

Throughout the course of this semester, we will work to memorize Latin prayers and songs. Our first Latin prayers is the Ave Maria (the Hail Mary). The students received handouts with this prayer along with a handout containing the Sign of the Cross in Latin. We will begin our memorization this semester with these two prayers.

The first Latin song we will work to learn is the first verse of Adoro Te Devote. The students received handouts containing this song during class. You can find a recording of the song here . We will work on this song throughout the next few weeks. Begin this week by singing along with the recording and using the handout.

Each week, the students will also receive a Latin vocabulary list. This week we introduced a list of Latin greetings. Remember that in Latin, the words for "hello" and "goodbye" change based on whether you are addressing one person or multiple people.

Each week, the students will have reading from The Children's Bible assigned to them. When we come into class next week, we will have a short quiz on the Bible reading and the Latin vocabulary.

Homework:

1. Begin memorizing the Signum Crucis (Sign of the Cross) and the Ave Maria (Hail Mary) in Latin.

2. Begin learning the Adoro Te Devote with the help of the recording.

3. Study the Latin greetings and complete the Latin worksheet handed out in class.

4. Read pages 14-23 in the Children's Bible and complete the Bible worksheet handed out in class.
