17-flowing

Objectives:

17.1.   Charge needs a continuous path to flow.

(a.) Define electricity and electric current.

(b.) Identify which configurations of a cell, a bulb and a wire will result in a lit bulb.

(c.) Explain and model how a battery works and describe the role of the battery in a circuit.

(d.) Determine the path of charge through the bulbs and wires and identify which of the two bulbs (if any) will light.

(e.) Determine where to attach a connecting wire in order to get a specified bulb or set of bulbs to light.

(f.) Predict how the current would change if there was a change in the number of cells or the number of bulbs or the resistance of the bulbs.

(g.) Analyze circuits and inspect indicators of current and bulb brightness in order to determine which circuit(s) violate a principle about current.

(h.) Identify the voltage-current-resistance relationship and to use the relationship to solve simple computational problems.

(i.) Recognize a series circuit, to distinguish it from a parallel circuit, and to construct and/or interpret a schematic diagram of a series circuit.

(j.) To compare the values of current and electric potential at various locations within a series circuit and to explain the principles that form the basis of such comparisons.

(k.) To recognize a parallel circuit, to distinguish it from a series circuit, and to construct and/or interpret a schematic diagram of a parallel circuit.

(l.) To compare the values of current and electric potential at various locations (inside and outside of the branches) within a parallel circuit and to explain the principles that form the basis of such comparisons.
